US Consulate at 201 Portage Ave
Donald Trump has flexed his power and privilege, with various executive measures attacking refugees and other migrants, increasing violent and racist immigration enforcement, targeting sanctuary cities, and funding the extension of the Clinton-era wall at the US-Mexico border. His measures, his views, his actions, are racist, Islamophobic , xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, and violent. Earlier, Trump announced approval for the Keystone and the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), despite sustained resistance from Indigenous communities, particularly at Standing Rock, North Dakota.
We are inviting our Winnipeg Treaty 1 communities to come together in a show of solidarity with migrants-that we will welcome any and all peoples, regardless of whether people have statuses or not, because all are deserving of dignity and compassion.
We will be having TWO SESSIONS. One during the day at 12 noon at the US Consulate at 201 Portage Ave. One at night at 6.30pm at the same locations, so people have the option of attending oen or the other or both!
We also demand the immediate cancellation by Canada of the "Safe third country agreement" with the USA. Trump's recent measures make it clear that the USA is not a "safe third country" and migrants should be allowed to pass into Canada without impediment.
