"Northern First Nations, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO), and the Future"

Grand Chief Sheila North Wilson

Grand Chief Sheila North Wilson has been Grand Chief of Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) since 2015. She was formerly a reporter with CTV Winnipeg where she was a RTNDA award winner and Gemini nominee. Previously she was Chief Communications Officer for the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs where her primary role was to work with Grand Chief Derek Nepinak and other First Nations leaders in Manitoba, building bridges of understanding between First Nations, non-First Nations people and the media. Part of her duties also involved working with an issue close to her heart: raising awareness on the national tragedy of missing and murdered Indigenous women. Sheila worked closely with families, friends and First Nations leaders touched by the issue. Grand Chief North Wilson's past experiences include work as a journalist for CBC, as an entrepreneur, a Cree translator and a radio personality. She grew up in the isolated community of Bunibonibee Cree Nation (Oxford House), has two children, is married and lives in Winnipeg.
