The Council of Canadians - Winnipeg Chapter

Internationally renowned author and activist Maude Barlow spoke in Winnipeg on September 21,  2009. She warned a packed house at the Blue Winnipeg event about the problems of dealing with Veolia.

"The most recent case is Adelaide in South Australia which is suing the company (Veolia), its subsidiary United Water, for raising the rates astronomically in the city of Adelaide in order to promote its business interests internationally.

So this is a very well documented story about how these companies, and this company in particular operate. Once they come here they are not coming here to provide clean water for the People of Winnipeg.

They are coming here to make money, they are in fierce competition  with other corporations, and they have one motive to be here and it's very clear and important that we understand that."
