A huge crowd gathered at the Manitoba Legislature in solidarity with Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, acknowledging that our water comes from their community at a deep and unjust cost. While Winnipegers drink clean water on a daily basis, Shoal Lake 40 has been under a boil water advisory for 17 years.

They have to spend $250 000 annually on bottled water; money that could be spent in more life-giving ways. The situation needs to change and we have an opportunity to create that change. Municipal, provincial, and possibly federal representatives will be meeting with Chief Erwin Redsky right after this rally. Shoal Lake 40 needs road access to the mainland.

Road access would make 1) a water treatment plant affordable, and 2) economic opportunities possible. Let?s show our elected leaders that this is a relationship that matters to the citizens of Winnipeg. Let?s encourage them to do the right thing!
